Detailed introduction

The Bosu-dong Bookstore Alley, the birthplace of modern history and culture in Busan, is the only remaining used bookstore area in Korea. It is a traditional book culture street in Korea where various books including book collections are gathered, as well as valuable old books. It is a place where many people love.

The Bosu-dong Bookstore Alley Festival is a private event hosted by a co-op of alley bookstores, which consists of 50 bookstore owners established in 2004. It is held every year from the Friday to Sunday in the 3rd week of October, when the fall semester starts, with the topic of 「Book must live」. The festival is held for the development of local cultural business and the spread of reading at Bosu-dong bookstore alley.

For middle-aged people, it is possible to feel the nostalgic feeling of going back to school. For children, who are familiar with new books and internet culture, it promotes the importance and interest in books. Also, it encourages a love of reading as result of being immersed in a sea of books.

During the festival period, visitors can freely view a collection of rare and old books owned by Bosu-dong stores on display. Also, the visitors can buy books at low prices and sell their books again salvaging some of their hard-earned wages.

In addition, you can enjoy the artwork installed in the bookstore alley while walking the alley. In the middle of the event, street art performances consisting of college students’ clubs in the neighborhood are held, attracting visitors as a cultural street where books and music are combined.

The 1 bookshop 1 event, book character costume plays, book concerts of authors, old books exhibitions, symposiums, and buskers from all over world are presented and are gaining popularity with children and visitors. The Bosu-dong Bookstore Alley Festival will be continuously reborn as a cultural festival where you can feel the leisure and romance of life through books in your busy daily life.
