Detailed introduction
Jungang Park, better known as Daecheong Park with an area of 273,941㎡, is located at 218-20 Yeongju-dong in Jung-gu. It is the most recently developed public park in Busan. The park is located at the top of the Daecheong Mountain at the height of 197m above sea level. This park was designated as “Daecheong Park” on September 2, 1970 changed from Daecheong Mountain, a shelter where refugees flocked to Busan from all over the country during the Korea War to become a resting place for Busan citizens. Since the announcement of the park area, in 1982, the park construction plan was decided and construction was compeleted on September 7, 1983. In 1986, the name was changed to “Jungang Park”.
Chunghon Tower (memorial tower) standing at a height of 70m in the grounds of Jungang Park is unique in the city. The memorial tower is located in the northern part of the park. This pilgrimage tower is a scared monument commemmorating police officers and armed forces members from Busan who died fighting fiercely to defend the country and its people after founding of the Republic of Korea in 1948. This tower has a semi-circular mortuary below its nine colonnades and has a memorial tablet on it. About 8954 tablets representing Busan born soldiers (army 7,417, navy 355, air force 57, police 557, 31 civilians attached to the military, 134 workers, 101 members of a patriotic organization, and 302 others) that had been kept in Yongdusan Park memorial tower were moved to this place. The memorial is significant and it is a dignified sculpture that seems to be overlooking the green offshore of Busan as the guardians of the local area. In addition, there is an outdoor sculpture park, a bust of Sohae Jang Gunsang, a monument of Oh Jebong and the Monument for Korea Straits Battle Victory.
Jungang Park is a scared place where the souls of fallen heroes who died protecting their homeland are honored. It is also used as a living facility to educate people about their country and instill a sense of patriotism and love for people. Jungang Park has a flower garden where people can see flowers throughout the year. In addition, there is a circular road and 18 installed sports facilities in the park, making it popular sports facility for citizens.
