Detailed introduction
The area of Gwangbok-ro in Jung-gu, Busan is called Busan’s No.1 Fashion area. The area is a result of Korean Investment at the entrance of Gwangbok-ro through the former Mihwadang department store and extends to the Busan Modern History Museum (former American Cultural Center) in Daecheong-dong and the entrance of the Gukje Market.
There is a number of large famous brand-name stores and a wide range of items such as high-grade children’s wear, fur coats, gentlemen and ladies’ suits, and cosmetics.
There about 100 fashion shops in this area. The main customer base is people who buy famous brands or high-end imported clothing regardless of price. There are so many shops competing, stores with 20~30% sales and shops with opening sales can be found at any time. This is a shopping paradise.
Gwangbok-ro is the best commercial center in Busan and a street of youth and fashion. The street is a space of fashion and romance.
Gwangbok-ro is the center of the Gwangbok-ro Festival hosted to create a cultural street. In order to develop the the street as a national attraction, the Jung-gu Office produced and installed the Millennium symbolic sculpture (city spot) which promotes a “fashion image” while the copperplate Millennium Message on the sculpture contains messages of the Mayors from 22 cities in 19 allied nations in front of the former Mihwadang department store, in the center of Gwangbok-ro, at the end of 2000. Also, Gwangbok-ro was selected as a pilot district for a beautiful street by improving the outdoor signboard’s aesthetic function. At the same time, Jung-gu Office is driving a strong leap to creating a commercial belt connecting Yongdusan Park, BIFF Square and Gukje Market and to hosting monthly Gwangbok-ro festivals to make a cultural street blossoming with a youthful cultural street.
